Review: PHICOMM Passion 660

Another good phone from Phicomm

We had talked about Phicomm's Energy 653 recently and this time, we are back with another device from Phicomm - the Passion 660.

Like its low priced sibling, this phone straightaway impresses with the light weight. Its weight of 110 grams seems all the more special, as it sports an all-metal Magnesium alloy frame with a sturdy one-piece outer casing. The matte texture, too, feels nice to hold.

However, the block-like shape of the phone with straight edges might not be liked by everyone. While we would have liked contoured edges better, it is also true that the straight-edges give this phone a distinct look, which is actually quite cool!

Powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, Passion 660 comes with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Internal memory. Exclusively sold on Amazon India for Rs 8999, this phone is available in two colours - black and white.

There are two SIM slots. While the first (micro SIM) slot supports 4G, the second one (nano SIM) is restricted to 2G. If you do not need the second SIM, you can use the same slot to expand the storage by upto 64 GB using a micro SD card.

Both SIM slots are on the right along with the power button. As the back cover is not removable, you need a small pin (included) to eject the SIM tray. Volume button is on the left side. The 5-inch full-HD (1920x1080) screen is quite good, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. HD videos play smoothly.

Primary camera is of 13 MP, and you have a 5 MP shooter for clicking selfies. The performance of both cameras is quite okay. The battery capacity, too, is fairly ok at 2300 mAh.

Phicomm calls its UI as Expect, and has also added some interesting apps. Pedometer is pre-installed, and so is an app that lets you share files on the phone with other devices connected to the same wi-fi network. It feels nice to note that there isn't much bloatware.

Overall, we feel that Passion 660 is quite an impressive phone in the sub-10k range. The company seems to be expanding the service network too - there are a total of 14 service centers in Karnataka now.
