ASUS Announces Smartphone Manufacturing in India

ASUS, well known for its ZenFone series of mobile phones, today announced it will start the local manufacturing of smartphones in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. In a strategic move to expand presence in India, ASUS will kick-start its manufacturing operations with Zenfone 2 Laser which will soon be followed by ZenFone Go. The company aims to manufacture 150,000 smartphones per month by the end of the current financial year which will account for almost 80% of sales in India.

“India offers us a huge opportunity as smartphone penetration is just 10%. We are excited to announce our local manufacturing facility that will cater to the growing demands of the market”, said Peter Chang, Regional Head - South Asia & Country Manager – System Business Group - ASUS India.
“The Indian government’s focus on ‘Make in India’ has opened a plethora of opportunities for international companies. It is an opportune time to make the announcement as it will enable us to bring our cutting edge products to consumers who are looking for features and design sensibilities of a high-end smartphone at an economic price.”

Chang further added, “We are aggressively targeting the Indian market. We aim to achieve 5% market share in the country by next year and empower all our customers with luxury.”

Last month, at the first edition of Zen Festival in India, the company launched its brand new offerings - Zenfone Selfie, Zenfone 2 Laser and Zenfone 2 Deluxe. The phones have received some really good reviews.

Following up this announcement with a partnership with Pratham Education Foundation, Asus has furthered its 'Make in India' commitment.

Under the partnership, a drawing contest was scheduled at 10 centers of the foundation in Mumbai. The contest saw participation from over 200 children who were asked to use their imaginations to represent their creativity on paper with colors. The collage of these drawings will be incorporated in a bag designed exclusively for 2000 buyers of “Made in India” ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser that will be available in ASUS exclusive stores and on Flipkart. In addition to the unique bag, the buyers will also receive a Diwali surprise from the ASUS family.

Established in 1995, to improve the quality of education in India, Pratham focuses on providing quality education to underprivileged children. Its geographical expanse covers 21 states in India and reaches out to over 7.7 million children through various programs.
