Review: Zopo Speed 7

New entrant impresses in a crowded segment

There was a time, when there were only a handful of companies in the mobile phone market, and they manufactured only a handful of models. But now, there are more mobile phone models in the market than you and I can probably count; and those are manufactured by companies whose number is a large multiple of what we had in the past.

In addition to the companies that we have already heard about, a lot of new companies are also entering the Indian mobile phone market. We have been hearing, very frequently, about the new models introduced by such new entrants.

Zopo is one such company from China, who has recently introduced a new model called the 'Speed 7'. Here is a quick look at this feature rich 4G phone, exclusively available on SnapDeal.

Review: PHICOMM Passion 660

Another good phone from Phicomm

We had talked about Phicomm's Energy 653 recently and this time, we are back with another device from Phicomm - the Passion 660.

Like its low priced sibling, this phone straightaway impresses with the light weight. Its weight of 110 grams seems all the more special, as it sports an all-metal Magnesium alloy frame with a sturdy one-piece outer casing. The matte texture, too, feels nice to hold.

However, the block-like shape of the phone with straight edges might not be liked by everyone. While we would have liked contoured edges better, it is also true that the straight-edges give this phone a distinct look, which is actually quite cool!

OPPO launches R7 Plus and R7 Lite

New phones impress with features and full metal body

Indian market is witnessing new models of mobile phones from various manufacturers on a daily basis. Today, in an event held in Bengaluru, OPPO launched R7 Plus and R7 Lite - two new phones in the R7 series with full metal body.

While R7 Plus has a 6 inch full HD AMOLED display, R7 Lite features a 5 inch HD screen. Both of them run on v2.1 of OPPO's custom flavor of Android called the ColorOS. These dual SIM 4G smartphones come with an option of trading one SIM slot in favor of using a micro SD card. They sport a 13 MP primary and 8 MP front cameras, with impressive features (such as the Laser Focus seen in R7 Plus).

Unlocking the potential

What's the most frequent activity that you perform with your mobile phone?

Is it using WhatsApp? Or answering calls??

Not really. Whenever you pick up your phone for any task, you first unlock your screen. You might have a lock pattern to unlock, or you may just swipe the screen to get into the home screen - but you still see that initial screen that asks you to unlock before proceeding.

Mobile, Money and Magic

Mobile phones, about 10-15 years ago, were just entering our lives. At that time, they were more of a luxury than a necessity. But still, we started to use them. During college days, mobiles were used more for playing ‘Snake’ and less for talking. A recharge in those days meant going to the neighborhood shop and buying a nicely printed card, often enclosed in a sealed plastic pouch. Postpaid payments weren’t any different: bill consisting of a bunch of color printed sheets would arrive through some courier service, and we would go wait in the queue to pay it!

And then, everything changed.

Smartphone race heats up with Zenfone 2

The first desktop that I purchased was about a decade and half ago. And all the processing power that it had was a measly 800 MHz. Throw in a RAM of 128 MB and I had a pretty good PC that time. Of course, that PC helped me write more than 150 of my early stage articles and prepare two books for printing!

Now, 15 years later, the configuration of that PC sounds funny. 800 MHz processor! 128 MB RAM!!

Forget PCs, the mobile phones of this era have lots more processing power than what my old friend had. And the good thing is that they are not done yet.
